Sci-Buy ("we", "our", "us") operates selltoscientists.com — a research intelligence platform for those who sell to scientists. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information about (a) visitors and users of our website and platform, and (b) academic researchers whose public data we index.
2. Data we collect about researchers
Sci-Buy indexes publicly available information from the following sources:
OpenAlex (paper metadata, institutional affiliations, ORCID IDs)
ORCID public profiles (names, institutional email if publicly disclosed)
PubMed and Crossref (publication records, authorship)
NIH Reporter (grant awards, PI information, funding amounts)
USPTO patent database (patent filings by researcher)
University faculty pages (institutional contact information)
We do not purchase third-party data lists. We only index data that researchers themselves have made publicly available.
3. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
For researchers in the EU/EEA, our legal basis for processing publicly available professional contact information is legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — specifically, enabling lawful B2B communication between researchers and companies with a genuine professional purpose. We balance this against individual interests and maintain an opt-out mechanism.
4. Researcher opt-out
Any researcher can request removal of their data from our platform at any time by emailing privacy@selltoscientists.com. We will process removal requests within 30 days and maintain a suppression list to prevent re-indexing. Opt-out propagates to all customer exports.
5. Data we collect about platform users
When you sign up for the waitlist or use our platform, we collect:
Name, email address, and company name
Use case (provided at signup)
Usage data (searches performed, records exported)
Payment information (processed by Stripe — we do not store card details)
6. How we use your data
We use platform user data to: operate and improve the service, communicate product updates, process payments, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell user data to third parties. We may share data with service providers (hosting, email, analytics) under data processing agreements.
7. Data retention
Researcher records are retained as long as the underlying public source remains active. Stale records (no publications or grant activity in 5+ years) are flagged and eventually removed. Platform user data is retained for the duration of the account plus 2 years.
