Ritu Raman leads MIT's Raman Lab, which builds biohybrid machines that harness the contractile force of engineered muscle tissue to actuate soft robotic structures that can self-repair after damage. Her optogenetic muscle-powered robots demonstrated the first light-controlled biohybrid swimmer. She received the NIH Director's New Innovator Award at age 29 and was named to Forbes 30 Under 30.
