PhD Candidates

Sofia Alexandrou

Sofia Alexandrou is a PhD candidate in Pharmaceutical Science at the National University of Singapore, supervised by Prof. Han Ei Chew. Her thesis develops ionisable lipid nanoparticle formulations for gastrointestinal mucus penetration and oral delivery of insulin and GLP-1 analogues, characterising in vitro permeability and in vivo pharmacokinetics in rodent and porcine models. Nine publications in the Journal of Controlled Release and ACS Nano document her formulation optimisation and biophysical characterisation work. Sofia participated in a research collaboration with Novo Nordisk's formulation science group in Denmark and was awarded the Singapore A-STAR graduate scholarship. She has received an offer from Lonza to join their lipid nanoparticle CDO team. Her oral insulin nanoparticle formulations have achieved 15-percent bioavailability in pig intestinal loops.
