Elena Vasquez
Elena Vasquez is a PhD candidate in Climate Science at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, supervised by Prof. Exequiel Ezcurra. Her thesis quantifies statistical relationships between Arctic sea-ice extent anomalies and Northern Mexico precipitation deficits using reanalysis data, regional climate models and palaeoclimate proxies, attributing historical drought episodes to remote atmospheric teleconnections. Eight publications in Geophysical Research Letters and Climate Dynamics document her teleconnection diagnostics and projection uncertainty analysis. Elena received a Conacyt doctoral fellowship and a NOAA visiting scientist award at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in Princeton. She has been recruited by the Mexican National Meteorological Service for a climate adaptation research role and is advising two state governments on drought early warning system design.
