Rwanda
Rwanda has rapidly built a research infrastructure driven by its Vision 2050 knowledge-economy agenda. The University of Rwanda, formed from the merger of seven institutions in 2013, is the country's primary research university with strengths in public health, agriculture, and applied engineering. Carnegie Mellon University Africa's graduate campus in Kigali has positioned Rwanda as a continental hub for AI and software engineering research. The National Industrial Research and Development Agency accelerates applied innovation in manufacturing and agro-processing. Rwanda's research output of around 3,500 indexed publications annually is growing faster than nearly any other African nation.
