# Sylvia Earle

> Sylvia Earle is among the world's foremost ocean scientists and advocates, having led more than 100 expeditions and spent over 7,000 hours underwater. She was the first female Chief Scientist of NOAA and set a solo depth record at 381 meters in 1979. She founded Mission Blue, a global initiative establishing marine protected areas called Hope Spots.
