# Mei-Yin Chou

> Mei-Yin Chou is a leading computational condensed matter physicist whose research centers on quantum mechanical first-principles calculations of electronic structure in metals, semiconductors, and novel two-dimensional materials. She has made seminal contributions to understanding the quantum size effect in ultrathin metallic films and the electronic properties of carbon nanotubes that predate and inform modern graphene research. Her group's density-functional theory work has provided predictive frameworks for surface reconstruction and catalytic reactivity used by semiconductor manufacturers. Chou served as Vice President for Research at the National Taiwan University before returning to Georgia Tech, and she is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. Her collaborations with Intel and Samsung have shaped transistor materials roadmaps at the sub-5-nm node.
