# Ingrid Daubechies

> Ingrid Daubechies constructed the first family of compactly-supported orthonormal wavelets — Daubechies wavelets — that transformed digital signal processing and image compression (underpinning JPEG 2000). She was the first female president of the International Mathematical Union. Her recent collaborations with art conservators use wavelet-based X-ray analysis to distinguish a master's brushstrokes from restorations.
